Empowered Children
"Nurturing Humanity" is much more than a slogan to ASSET people. In our schools we believe that everything we do should empower our children to be the next generation of citizens and leaders that will shape our world.
Oracy, equity and empowerment are important building blocks in enabling children to stand up for themselves, for what they want and need, and for what is right.
Our classroom practice ensures children develop strong oracy skills as they learn. Every opportunity for children to articulate, discuss, question and debate their learning is taken.
There are opportunities for leadership everywhere in our schools. Not every child aspires to be Prime Minister one day, but all of our children should feel that they have the agency, knowledge and skills to step up to the challenges that they want to choose in their lives. We encourage children to take social action in their communities - understanding how they can make a difference to improve lives.
Our ASSET Arrows are our cross-trust Pupil Parliament group. Two children from every ASSET school attend a one day gathering half termly, acting as the voice of their peers, and leading change projects back at school. In 2024-25 the ASSET Arrows are working on the development of a new healthy and sustainable food offering.
Our ASSET Alumni are a group of young people who have left an ASSET school and gone on to secondary school. We meet out of school hours and these young people develop their leadership skills, and create social action projects in their communities. They also influence our evolution as a family of schools, giving valuable feedback on how well we have prepared them for secondary school and providing insight into challenges such as social media use in children and young people.
