The ASSET Food Summit 2024

On 26th November Eco-Councils and other pupil groups from every ASSET school met at Hope Church in Ipswich for the Food Summit, led by the ASSET Arrows. Our brief was to change school mealtimes for the better.

Children from The Beeches work on a healthy eating task

We explored the environmental impact of food, and healthy eating in the first part of the day.

Young Leaders from Bungay lead a task

Most of the tasks set during the day were designed and run by members of the ASSET Arrows

At lunchtime we ate together, which was a great experience!

And we talked about food - what we liked and disliked, and what we ate at home

We put all the packaging from our lunches on the stage

And were shocked at the huge pile we created from just one meal

Our ASSET Arrows gave speeches on leadership, the environment and food

Which helped shape our thinking

Much of the day was thought provoking, and gave us lots to consider

It was great to have all 15 schools there

It was good to work together, with people from different schools

And consider how we can make school dinner better for us and better for the planet

At the end we had to come up with a project idea

to overcome the challenges to eating school dinners that are healthy and sustainable. We got £500 per school to help!
